Commission Information

Want a custom piece? Check out the Guidelines below:

*Please note* - I have a limited commission availability and currently have a wait list for commissions. Please contact me with any questions you may have. Before starting a custom piece, I ask that you read through and agree to the information below.

Sizes and Pricing

I price commissions based on the amount of time invested in their completion. Therefore, the price ranges listed below are estimations based on previous works.

The sizes listed below are common sizes I work with. If you would like a size not listed, it may be accommodated within reason. The prices listed are for a standard canvas. Canvases can hang on the wall alone or be custom framed. Custom framing is available upon request for an additional fee.

I use quality gallery wrapped canvas and high quality paints. Most of my works are in acrylic; oil is an option depending on the timeline for your piece. If you have a preference, please specify or I will decide which is best based on your piece.

Payment and Procedure

Please note that paying your deposit is what secures your spot on my waitlist. Delaying in paying your deposit will result in the delaying of your piece. My waitlist works on a first come, first serve basis. I follow the standard practice of 50% down payment before I begin, and 50% payment upon completion. The 50% down payment is based on your initial estimate. This is to cover cost of materials and seen as a non-refundable deposit. I will not begin your piece until initial payment is received; please take this into consideration.

I accept payment in the form of cash, a mailed check, or Venmo. Wisconsin sales tax will be added to the price when applicable.

After I receive your images that fit the criteria listed below, I will pick one that I think will create the most satisfying result. After we come to an agreement, and I receive initial payment, I may begin working on your custom piece. I will honor your vision while staying true to my artistic style and intuition.

Please allow for two - six weeks for completion and dry time. (This may increase dependent upon size of piece, waitlist times, mediums used, and varnish dry time.) I will send one progress picture midway in the process. Two small revisions are included in your estimate. Any additional revisions will add to my hourly rate and increase your estimate.

Additional shipping rates may apply. Thank you for your understanding. I can’t wait to bring your vision to life!**

*Please note that custom pieces are for personal use only. As the artist, I retain full ownership of the images I create and therefore retain all reproduction rights unless agreed upon in writing.

**No returns or refunds on custom work.

Reference photos

The reference photo required for the commission is of the utmost importance in the accurate portrayal of the subject. Quality reference photos ensure that I am able to capture the likeness of your subject. If I cannot see it in the photo, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the result. Therefore I require quality reference photos to complete a commission piece.

That being said, I am able to take artistic license for the sake of a stronger end result. (Sometimes an animal has passed away and therefore you cannot take additional photos, or a key feature is missing from a photo but portrayed in another, etc.) I will include some examples below.

Some things I am looking for in a reference image:

  • A sharp and clear photograph (I cannot work with blurry photos.)

  • A clear view of key features such as the face.

  • A high resolution to allow for me to zoom in for details.

  • Quality lighting (If most of the subject is in shadow, it is difficult to see key features.)

  • An interesting composition (Head-on, symmetrical views of the subject do not translate well into paint. Look for an asymmetrical, dynamic pose instead.)

If your reference photos do not fit the above criteria, it may result in the termination of your commission.

Here’s an example of combining photos. The owner didn’t have one of the dogs together that fit the criteria. Both dogs had passed away, so I combined two separate pictures to achieve the result the client was looking for.

“Popcorn the Cow” - 11x14” - acrylic on canvas

“Popcorn the Cow” - 11x14” - acrylic on canvas

Here’s an example of where I took the creative liberty of straying from the reference photo - I chose to leave out the hand, and add the ears because you could not see them in the original image.
